Story and Narrative

The conventional for the genre of psychological thriller that is used most of the time are a mystery, crime fiction, and thriller. This is the main three ones used by the industry as the inside of this three there are more points that they can use which can be a crime thriller, police procedural, crime mystery, etc. Also, it can be the camera work that they use and the type of lighting.

Most psychological  thriller would have a psychopath which was tournament when they were younger. Starting the movies with tense soundtracks to engage the audiences more, but also by easily grabbing their attention more and more. This gives a sense of tension and maybe problems that may occur in the movie.

Barthes theory did have 5 narrative codes that describe the meaning of the text. It suggests that the text of the film can be open which means twist the story in many different ways, other is a closed story which means there is only one way of narrating the story. The 1 code is Enigma code, it refers that there will be many mystery moments along the movie, where the clues will be given but no clear answers will be found. The 2 code is Action/Proairetic code which means action scenes will be appearing with suspense. The 3 code is semantic code, which is an extra element of meaning in the text. The 4 code is Symbolic code, which shows a contrast and also shows greater meaning in the text. The 5 one is the Cultural code, that looks at in more depth at the audience's knowledge and culture.

The movie that used Barthes theory is "Saw", the movie consisted of the different type of twists, especially mystery moments that were hard for the audiences find out the answer to the problems. Every time, a new problem was appearing for the characters.
