Production log
Week One: (5 Oct- 11 Oct)
In the first week me, Sonia and Nikita were put into a group to film our preliminary task. My role was to help Sonia with the editing as Nikita completed the filming. I analysed our preliminary task as well as existing ones to see what we had done well and what we can improve on leading to our final production. In addition, i posted the script to our preliminary task.
Week Two: (12 Oct- 18 Oct)
We were put into our actual groups for the making of the opening scene which included me, Shivani, Sonia and Ayaan. I created two logo's which we could possibly use. My logo with the hand was chosen as it presented us the best. I then created a ident on aftereffects for our opening scene which had our production name and logo.
We decided on a opening scene we would like to make a remake of. I created a shot list which included the timings and duration of the shots, what kind of shot it was and noted the costume down. We then filmed the shot by shot remake. My role was to direct the shots and also help Sonia with the positions and the actions she had to do as she was our actor. After the shot by shot remake was edited and up on our blogs, i analysed it. While analysing i looked at what i had done well, what i learnt through the process and how we could have improved the shot by shot remake as well as the process.
Week Three: (19 Oct- 25 Oct)
I analysed fast and furious 7 including the conventions used and relating it to MECS. As a group we discussed who is genre important to and how will it help us with our production. As a group we looked at two possible genre we could choose from. we came up with fantasy and psychological thriller. However we decided as a group we will go for psychological thriller as fantasy would be harder to create with limited technology. We also looked at common problems opening scenes may have such as running scenes.
Week Four: (26 Oct- 2 Nov)
I chose two films which were Insomnia and Memento which liked to our chosen genre- psychological thriller. i analysed them thinking about the conventions used and relating it to MECS. We looked at what sort of people are found in psychological thrillers and why they might be chosen. Me and Sonia created a script which answers these questions.
Week Five: (3 Nov- 9 Nov)
Me, Shivani and Sonia looked at opening titles. We each chose a a film within our genre and took screenshot of each title and names what was shown. This will help us in our own production as it will allow us to know the order of the titles within that genre. I looked at iconography in psychological thriller's and made a mood board on things that we associate with psychological thriller. We simply added pictures in a distorted manner which remind us of our genre.
Week Six: (10 Nov- 16 Nov)
I looked at what story lines is conventional to our genre and associated it with the idea of Propp's theory.
Within representation i looked at age and how different age groups are represented in psychological thriller movies. Me and Sonia created a Facebook page for the demographics and psychographics profile of our target audience. We also done some additional research for our target audience. We asked people questions to do with our genre.
Week Seven: (17 Nov- 23 Nov)
I looked at specific directors which have made psychological thrillers and looked at their style. I also looked at roles in the film production and wrote who will be taking what roles within our group for our production of a opening scene. I done some additional research on how media products target their audience and created a research summary. I thought of two story lines which we could possible have and summarised them in 25 word to create an elevator pitch.
Week Eight: (24 Nov- 30 Nov)
During this week i annotated a script using script conventions. I also created a script which we could possibly use .Our group decided on one chosen script and improved it. We created a final draft after seeing if any changes are needed to the script. I looked at the British Board Of Film Classification and decided on a rating which would suit our script and why.
Week Nine: (1 Dec- 7 Dec)
I looked at institutions and classification and chose Icon Film Distributions to distribute our film and why. I was assigned to be the Sound Designer designer and so i did some research on what they do, what skills are required and how can it help me to prepare for the shoot. We then as a group broke down the script and annotated it. Individually i done a script analysis of our script.
Week Ten: (8 Dec- 14 Dec)
We as a group wrote down how many shots we had in total and divided between us so that we could create a storyboard. I had the first 9 shots of the film opening which i drew out in a 3 by 3 grid. We as a group traveled to hounslow for our location and technical recce which we filmed and later edited on a mac. I also decided on the costumes and props we may need and why to prepare us for the shoot day. We created a shooting script to guide us on our shoot day so that we could get all the shots in the same room at the same time. I also made a power-point for shot blocking. I drew out the rooms with the shapes and added directions of where the camera and the actors move.
Week Eleven: (15 Dec-21 Dec)
Me and Shivani created a casting video where we chose many volunteer people who could act in our opening scene. This helped us chose our actors well depending on their role in our opening scene. We found release forms online for the actors and location to be signed so we have their consent. Me and Shivani completed an risk assessment considering hazards or what could go wrong and how we can take precaution and prevent it. Me and Ayaan created an brief production schedule as a guidance to what should be done on the day.
Week Twelve: (22 Dec- 28 Dec)
As a group we produced an call sheet to make the shooting run smoothly.
Week thirteen: (29 Dec-4 Dec)
--
Week Fourteen: (5 Jan- 11 Jan)
--
Week Fifteen: (12 Jan- 18 Jan)
--
Week Sixteen: (19 Jan- 25 Jan)
During this week we went to our location for a test shoot. This allowed us to see if there's enough space for certain angles and camera shot's. This helped us to plan the actors movement in the scene. We then made any necessary changes for example the actor spitting food out as there was simple not enough space to do the shot we expected to do.
Week Seventeen: (26 Jan- 1 Feb)
31st Jan was our shoot day however when we viewed our footage on adobe premier there was many scenes missing as well as some scenes looking out of focus. We decided to do the shoot again.
Week Eighteen: (2 Feb- 8 Feb)
We found out that the location we had was not available anymore. Therefore, we had to find a alternative location. We asked people to show us the layout of their house and finally we found one which would be suitable for our opening scene.
Week Nineteen: (9 Feb- 15 Feb)
We went to our new location and discussed if there was any changes needed due to the new location. We then done the shooting and edited the footage. We also created soundtrack on garage band. We created Foley sounds for example we banged chairs together to create a car crash sound which we used int he beginning of our film opening.
Week Twenty: (16 Feb-25 Feb)
We uploaded the final edit to YouTube and embedded it to our blog. I then started my seven questions of evaluation and posted it.
