representation- age

Representation -Age

Majority of psychological thriller movies show teenagers and young children with emotionally distorted minds and are also portrayed as unstable, weak victims.  These characters can appeal to the audience as they can relate to what’s happening to the characters. They are represented as characters who cannot look after themself and so someone older has to do this. They are often looked down at by the use of high angles. This portrays them smaller than they actually are. when children are represented, High pitched, slow non-diegetic sound is used to show they are vulnerable and harmless. This makes the audience feel sympathy when the younger characters are in trouble in the film. The colours of the costume they normally wear are light colours to connote peace and that they won't do any harm.

The representation of the elderly is similar to teenagers and young children. However they are shown more grumpy rude and unhealthy. Soft shallow focus is used to show the elderly’s poor health conditions. Through the use of blur the elderly characters are not shown properly which also shows how they see the world. The colours of their costume is much darker compared to teenagers and young children. These may be seem as ‘’ugly’’ or not very ‘’Pleasing’’ which connotes they may be rude and stubborn. The elderly are often disrespected and also have high angle on them to show they are weak and that society looks down on theme.
