Welcome!

Hello! Welcome to our Media Studies blog! We have created a film opening for the psychological thriller genre, aimed at a target audience of about 20 to 45, which we will link in this post.

For our opening, we decided on specific job roles, although we did share a lot of the responsibilities.

Sonia - Officially, the director, I took responsibility for directing actors and crew members to create the perfect (to an extent) opening. I also contributed heavily in post-production, including piecing together the necessary cuts from the raw footage, adding effects and being the main composer for the incidental music.

Mitali - Mitali was the sound designer for the opening and she was also in charge of controlling the background noise on set, alongside Shivani.

Shivani - Shivani was the production designer, which meant that she was the designer of the arrangement of props, costume and set, although this was shared amongst the group. Shivani also took the vital role of location and casting scout.

Ayaan - Ayaan was the official camera operator for the opening. She took the role of taking shots and, alongside the director, correcting shots and angles (in relation to our original storyboard) to make sure they looked as interesting and effective as possible. Ayaan also assisted me with composing the incidental music.

We hope you enjoy our blog and film opening.

Sonia Pal - Evaluation Question 7

<<< angry director

Question 7- Shivani Rangi

My script:

In my preliminary task I had to focus on three camera techniques, which were over the shoulder, close-up and match on action.  This was difficult for me as I didn't know that much about this camera techniques as I was new about all this. Although I tried this technique in my preliminary work, as I had to use it. Also, we had to use 18-degree rule, which was very hard to use, as we add to use the rule all the time without making any mistake and if we did make any mistake we add to redo the scene.  This did challenge my skills as I started improving myself as I started improving my camera work skills and also, I did challenge myself to improve all the time in every challenge that did come in front of me.
Also that time we did our preliminary task we didn't take that long writing a script, which did make me lose the quality of my preliminary task as i feel that our actors did feel confused on what to talk about in the scene, as our script wasn't perfect and there was only dialogues written in our script. Our editing in preliminary task was mostly cuts, as we didn't know much about editing and other editing skills, which didn't allow me use different editing skills as i didn't know much about it.

Now if I look at my opening scene, I believe i have improved but i still need to improve more as i need to know more about all the different techniques. In this we did use different camera technique such as mid shots, long shots, long shot and many more, this suggests that i did improve my techniques although i could had improved more, using this camera techniques in different angles.  This did improve my skills by challenging them every step, also in my editing skills as i used different type of editing such as fade, shadows and others. I even added diegetic and non-diegetic sound, but if i compared this to my preliminary work I didn't do this, as I only used one sound. I even added a different type of font titles in my opening scene, as I didn't do that for my preliminary work. As I started progressing I also used high and low angles in my work, to add tension between the audiences and comparing to my preliminary I did challenge myself in other skills as well such as changing the colour or adding effects in my scenes for my opening scene film.

This will also imply that in my preliminary task I didn't use any props, like I did in my opening scenes such as pregnancy test and telephone and I didn't even do technical and location recce for my preliminary task as I don't for my opening scene, this shows that I did improve and done more planning for my opening scene than my preliminary task. We even did more planning for our opening scene such as storyboards, call sheets, risk assessment and much more and if I compare this with my preliminary task I didn't do this as I didn't even that much knowledge about it.

Other people's opinions were that we could have done better by using more effects and different angles for our camera. Also, we could have used more props as it would create more effect in our film and in last we should have used different sound as it would create curiosity and suspense between the audiences. Although, they liked our story in the film as it's different than other opening scenes and the way we presented the characters.
